Well, here’s some news we didn’t expect to ever hear… we’re apparently still in The Matrix!
No, the world isn’t really a computer simulation that got a bizarre virus in 2016, we’re talking about the megahit film franchise.
We just learned today we’re getting a FOURTH Matrix movie!
And no, it won’t be a remake or a reimagining or any of that soft reboot crap, we’re talking about an honest to goodness sequel over 16 years later!

Warner Bros and Village Roadshow shared the news with Variety exclusively on Tuesday: This is another chapter in the saga, complete with the original filmmakers! Well, filmmaker. Singular.
This one will be helmed by Lana Wachowski all on her lonesome. Warner Bros. Picture Group chairman Toby Emmerich said in his announcement:
“We could not be more excited to be re-entering ‘The Matrix’ with Lana. Lana is a true visionary — a singular and original creative filmmaker — and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing and producing this new chapter in ‘The Matrix’ universe.”
It’s been two decades since the first Matrix movie blew unexpecting 1999 audiences out of their seats, and Lana is ready to plug back in — even though it’s without sister Lilly Wachowski for some reason.

Lana said in a statement:
“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”
Lana is working from a script she cowrote with Aleksander Hemon (Love Island — not that one, Brit readers) and David Mitchell (not that one, Brit readers — the one who wrote Cloud Atlas).
As for the details we know so far…
Yes, this is a sequel, and yes that does mean returning cast.

Keanu Reeves is back as Neo! Carrie-Anne Moss is back as Trinity! Yesssss!!! Laurence Fishburne is… actually, that was one of the odd points of the news.
Apparently something is changing with the Morpheus character, supposedly they’re going for a new actor? Something about a younger take?
That’s honestly something of a letdown, especially after Keanu and Fish reunited so wonderfully onscreen the past couple years in the John Wick movies.

Frankly we thought we remembered everyone dying at the end of the last one, so who even knows where this is going, right?
The fourth chapter is set to begin filming in early 2020. Are YOU going to take the red pill again???
