Though we’ve been bombarded lately with stories of last January’s violent rant against his baby momma Oksana, no one has forgotten when four years ago, Mel Gibson was arrested for a DUI and spewed anti-Semitic hate at his arresting officer.
Shortly after Mel was set free, the deputy who brought Mel in filed a lawsuit against the L.A. County police, claiming he was “retaliated against after the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department alleged he leaked the police report to TMZ” and discriminated against because he was ordered to “take out all references to Mel’s anti-Semitic comments” in the police report. Today, the matter still has yet to be resolved and the County of L.A wants the lawsuit thrown out.
They claim that the deputies lawsuit is “unsupportable” and in legal papers explain, “Simply receiving a directive to proceed in one manner with respect to a police report cannot in and of itself be considered discriminatory.”
True, but the deputy also alleges that he was “unjustly” denied a promotion and was even forced to transfer to another, less prestigious post due to his religion. The sheriff’s office denies this claim as well.
Anti-Semitic behavior shouldn’t be tolerated, especially in our public offices. We know its been a long time, but perhaps the case warrants further review. It is the man’s dignity we’re talking about here. He deserves to be given at least a fair shot to say his peace.
