According to a new study, memory loss and the signs of dementia can begin as early as 45.
This really sucks, to be honest.
All of this comes from a 10-year study of more than 7,000 British government workers, and contradicts previous notions that cognitive decline does not begin before turning 60.
That’s a 15 year difference! How could they be so far off??
A doctor involved explains:
“We were expecting to see no decline, based on past research. It doesn’t suddenly happen when you get old. That variability exists much earlier on. The next step is going to be to tease that apart and look for links to risk factors.”
Despite the depressing nature of the find, it seems like the ray of hope from it will come from how early doctors can now start potential patients on medication. As we all know, the early something is caught, the better the chances. Just think if we were to catch dementia 15 years before we originally thought we could??
It would be a huge help.
It’s just lame that is has to start at all, let alone that early.
