Snap, snap!!
Looks like the men behind two of the most fabulous television series are putting their paws up, baby!!
When Desperate Housewives‘ creator Marc Cherry was asked whether or not he’d ever turn Wisteria Lane into a movie, he totally clawed at Sex and the City!!
Cherry said:
I’m never sending these gals to Dubai. That’s all I’m saying. Sex and the City only did, I think, a total of something like 69 episodes. So I always thought that the advantage for them was that they had they hadn’t really plumbed the depths of those characters.
Uhmmm…. ouch!!
Did he forget that while the quantity might be smaller than his ABC hit, the six seasons of SatC were written and crafted by a staff employed by HBO??? You know, quality TV mecca???
Of course, Sex EP Michael Patrick King responded with his own backhanded burn:
I don’t think he has ever made a feature film, so I don’t know if he knows what that entails, but the reality is my second movie made almost half a billion dollars. It’s fine.
The reality is I’ve moved on from that. I’m doing a new show (2 Broke Girls). It’s the number one comedy.
Here’s what happens: You create something in the moment that you feel will be good, and then people’s reactions to it or people referencing it years later, it’s a compliment.
Well said, MPK!!
But honestly, we’re sure Cherry is tired of always asked to compare his own show to Sex, and that’s probably where most of the sass comes from.
But SatC deserves a little respect! That franchise had — and still has — a major effect on pop culture.
