We won’t deny that Michel Gondry, acclaimed filmmaker and music video director for the likes of The Rolling Stones, Radiohead, and The White Stripes, has vision.
But fool, you must be downright BLIND if you’re not AMAZED by Lady Gaga!
During a recent interview with Michel, he said of GaGa:
├óΓé¼┼ôI├óΓé¼Γäóm not interested. To me it├óΓé¼Γäós like a form of Marilyn Manson. It├óΓé¼Γäós hard for me to talk about it; I├óΓé¼Γäóve seen a couple of videos of hers, and not for very long. I stop watching them each time because I don├óΓé¼Γäót think there├óΓé¼Γäós melodies. I├óΓé¼Γäóm sorry to be negative. Like I├óΓé¼Γäóm not a big fan of Madonna. I respect her very much, but unfortunately the videos didn├óΓé¼Γäót help the music in the long run. Well, I guess it helped it to survive to the point where the video was irrelevant. So music has to find its own way, which is good for the music. It becomes smaller and more alive and it├óΓé¼Γäós not as crazy, except for some R&B. To me, it├óΓé¼Γäós just talking about the surface. I compare it to Marilyn Manson. The music to me is very expected. I don├óΓé¼Γäót think there├óΓé¼Γäós anything in the tone or the melody that makes me say, ├óΓé¼╦£Oh, there├óΓé¼Γäós something going on.├óΓé¼Γäó… And I like commercial music. Michael Jackson will always be my favorite pop musician; he was for years and years until his death, which was horrible to me. So I like pop culture. But to me, even if it├óΓé¼Γäós popular, there is a quality in the music you have to be able to appreciate. And I don├óΓé¼Γäót see it. Her melodies are very conventional. I remember when my friend and I would argue about Killing Joke. I remember him saying, ├óΓé¼╦£It├óΓé¼Γäós so great!├óΓé¼Γäó But I said, ├óΓé¼╦£It├óΓé¼Γäós so conventional! How can you find anything original? It├óΓé¼Γäós just surface!├óΓé¼Γäó I don├óΓé¼Γäót know, maybe the comparison is ridiculous. But the melody was very, very flat. That├óΓé¼Γäós probably why they are famous. But maybe it├óΓé¼Γäós considered high art just because of the way she dresses?├óΓé¼┬¥
We read all that and all we got was “Blah, blah, blah, JEALOUS!!!, blah, blah, blah!
Next time you make a video, we’ll put it up against GaGa’s and see which one fares better.
