Mike Tyson has apparently been a life-long pigeon lover and has a 6-part documentary debuting on Animal Planet in March about it!
Tyson is heading back to his Brooklyn roots to train racing pigeons, which the retired rapist boxer describes as:
“The cr├â┬¿me de la cr├â┬¿me of the pigeon world. These are thoroughbred pigeons.”
We never knew!
Apparently, Tyson escaped his childhood bullies on the roof of a house next to the gym where he trained and found tranquility raising pigeons.
Taking on Tyson was shot in New York City last spring and explores the complex world of racing pigeons, which is a little-known sport in much of the US.
Although the main focus is on Tyson and a group of other pigeon fanciers training birds for races, we’ll also get a glimpse into the former boxer’s checkered past and his life as it is now.
The star of the show said:
“This is what we do. Our lives are dedicated to pigeons, even when I have been fighting or getting locked up. This is not no hobby. This is something we are going to do until the day we die.”
Fly or die!
Based on EVERYTHING Mike Tyson has ever done, this should be one entertaining reality show.
We just hope the techniques used to train and race these pigeons are humane and do not hurt the birds in anyway.
Thoughts???
