Miley Cyrus Marks 10th Anniversary Of Twerking On Robin Thicke At VMAs -- With Song About Her 'Wild' Years!

Miley Cyrus Tearfully Mourns 'Wild' Days In New Song -- On 10th Anniversary Of VMA Twerk!

Miley Cyrus is ready to move to a new stage in her life.

In her new song Used To Be Young, which she dropped Friday, the former Disney star is opening up about her transition from those “wild” younger years to now. The 30-year-old uploaded the emotional music video to her YouTube channel on the tenth anniversary of some monumental — and controversial — milestones in her career: the release of her single Wrecking Ball AND her performance at the 2013 VMAs.

Yeah, it’s been TEN YEARS since the songstress belted out We Can’t Stop while twerking on Robin Thicke live on MTV! A whole decade! Can you believe it??

In the introspective ballad, Miley can be seen wearing a vintage Mickey Mouse tee (how self-referential!) while she tearfully sings:

“The truth is bulletproof / There’s no fooling you / I don’t dress the same / Me and who you say I was yesterday / Have gone our separate ways”

She goes on to sing about how she left the fast life “in the past” and found that “open bars lead to broken hearts”. The chorus is even more emotional, as she mourns the person she used to be when she was “young”:

“I know I used to be crazy / I know I used to be fun / You say I used to be wild / I say I used to be young”

Damn!! Tear-jerking!!

But the main thing the Flowers musician seems to be addressing in this song is her lack of regrets. Later, she sings:

“Those wasted nights are not wasted / I remember every one / I know I used to be crazy / That’s cause I used to be young”

In a heartfelt post on Instagram Tuesday, The Climb singer wrote in her song announcement’s caption she’d been writing the lyrics for almost two years:

“It was at a time I felt misunderstood. I have spent the last 18 months painting a sonic picture of my perspective to share with you. The time has arrived to release a song that I could perfect forever. Although my work is done, this song will continue to write itself everyday. The fact it remains unfinished is a part of its beauty. That is my life at this moment ….. unfinished yet complete.”

The pop star’s iconic yet controversial album Bangerz was a big change in not only her career but her public image. Everyone was shocked and ready to give their opinion on the Party In The U.S.A. songstress when she stripped down naked and swung around on a wrecking ball in a Terry Richardson-directed music vid. Instantly iconic, but also… solidifying an image.

And who could forget THAT moment at the VMAs when she turned the world upside down in that skin-tight two piece as she made lewd gestures with a foam finger and backed that thing up into Robin as he performed Blurred Lines? Let’s watch again, for old times’ sake…

Over the years Miley has given us so many different versions of herself and her music — all the way from her Hannah Montana days to her newest hit album Endless Summer Vacation. We can’t wait to see where she goes next!
