Following the controversy over the alleged attempted sale of Slumdog Millionaire child actor Rubina Ali by her father Rafiq Qureshi, Rubina’s older sister, Sana Ali, is saying that the success of the film has destroyed her family.
13-year-old Sana said that since the media fallout, her father, who is no longer married to her biological mother, has driven her out, claiming that “My father said I was unwanted and Rubina was more precious. Abba [father] cared for us well before Slumdog. The Oscar has destroyed my family.”
Danny Boyle has asked “the media to consider the possible negative impacts of the recent media scrutiny on nine-year-old Rubina, and assist in protecting her interests through sensitive reporting to limit further unnecessary exploitation of her rights and interests.”
A tough situation all around!
