Nooooo!!!
The sequel to Mortal Instruments: City of Bones was all set to begin shooting next week! We were even just talking to the cast about getting back to work on City of Ashes!
But production has now been shut down INDEFINITELY following MI‘s poor performance at the box office last month!
City of Ashes had already signed on Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower to return for the second installment, while Sigourney Weaver was also expected to join the cast!
After only a $58 million take at the box-office for City of Bones though, producers are now wondering if they have a hit on their hands or if they should bail out off this YA franchise altogether!
The executive producer of the flick, Martin Moszkowicz, is now saying that the decision to halt production was not an easy one, but that they are still very much committed to making the second movie. Martin explained:
“It was clear that it will be beneficial to have more time to reposition the film in the current market place. The Mortal Instruments├óΓé¼Γäó series has an incredibly loyal and ardent fan base and is a bestselling book series. While taking Cassandra Clare├óΓé¼Γäós vision to the screen, we want to make sure to draw on the full potential of the franchise.├óΓé¼┬¥
We SO hope they can figure out how to right what went wrong the first time around! This story is way too good to not have it make its way onto the big screen!
Come on, Shadowhunters! Let’s make it happen!
