VMAs Can't Keep Up The Ratings From Last Year's Twerkfest! See How Far 2014's Numbers Dropped HERE!

Despite the draw of big stars like Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, and oh-yeah-freakin’ Beyonc├â┬⌐, this year’s VMAs just could not deliver.
The ratings, that is.
Last year’s show boomed with a whopping 10.1 million viewers of the initial broadcast, but 2014 marked a BIG drop – down to 8.3 mil.
It’s still up from two years ago when the show aired on Thursday (weeknights just aren’t as good for award shows, Emmys!) but even with some must-see moments, this year was down nearly 18%!
But does that mean fewer people were watching? Or that fewer people were watching live on TV? After all, MTV’s key demo is a generation that knows how to get its shows when it wants, where it wants, how it wants.
There definitely were people paying attention; around 5.4 million more viewers tuned in for encores.
And Nielsen estimates there were around 12.6 million #VMA related tweets! That’s a lot of conversation if people weren’t watching…
