Not bad for an indie band, right??
Mumford & Sons just released Babel, their sophomore album — and it has grabbed the biggest debut of any album this year in the U.S.
How big? Try 600,000 units sold in its first week, becoming the rock quartet’s first No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart!
Oh and it’s the first No. 1 for its record label, Glassnote Records.
But wait, there’s more:
It also had the biggest sales week for a rock album since 2008, biggest sales week for RED Distribution, second largest sales week of 2012, second largest sales week for an Independently Distributed Album in SoundScan History, second largest digital sales week for an Album, and this is the sixth straight year an indie album has hit No. 1.
SO FAB, guys!
Mix that with the fact that their first album, Sigh No More, hasn’t dipped below number 75 on the charts since July of 2010, and you’ve got a band that apparently appeals to the entire world!
Congrats, M&S!
