Investigators in Puyallup, Washington have finally pieced together what happened in a slow-unfolding murder-suicide in which they discovered four bodies inside a home.
Back on New Year’s Eve, cops were dispatched to a home in Puyallup to perform a wellness check on two of the people who lived there. Per a statement released by the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office via People and others, neighbors called cops and informed them that the residents — 68-year-old William Vosler and his 66-year-old wife Eileen Vosler — had not been heard from for a while.
Specifically, neighbors told deputies that they couldn’t recall seeing William or Eileen since the summer — a full six months before the calls. Considering William had been known by all in the neighborhood to work on his cars out in his driveway, his prolonged absence was unsettling.

So, cops performed the wellness check with the help of the Voslers’ other adult sons. But instead of finding William and Eileen, they discovered the dead bodies of their youngest son, 33-year-old Shane Vosler, and his 34-year-old girlfriend Sue Bin Lee (both pictured above). Per multiple outlets, Lee’s body was found in an upstairs room with a gunshot to the head. Shane was found not far away, in the master bedroom, also with a gunshot wound to the head.
Alarmed, cops immediately filed for a search warrant so they could scour the rest of the home. Once it was granted, they discovered what they’d been hoping not to find: the corpses of William and Eileen.
OMG…
Their bodies weren’t immediately identifiable, though, because they’d been dead since July. While police documents don’t specifically say where the bodies were found, local news affiliate KCPQ reported that officers did find a large refrigerator in the home’s garage with liquid leaking from the bottom and two unsettling notes attached to it.
One note read:
“Time of Death July 24th 5:45 AM.”
While the other note read:
“Time of death July 24th 3:00 PM.”
Remember, that New Year’s Eve discovery means the two bodies were in that freezer for five months. WTF…
All this is coming to a head now because on Friday afternoon, the Pierce County Medical Examiner’s Office was finally able to confirm that the bodies were those of William and Eileen. Furthermore, per the Seattle Times, the medical examiner’s report determined they’d both died by homicide. William died from a stab wound to the chest and severe head trauma; Eileen died from multiple stab wounds to the neck and chest.
The Seattle Times also quoted sheriff’s department spokesperson Carly Cappetto over the weekend about the case. The deputy confirmed that investigators believed Shane was responsible for his parents’ deaths. Cops do not know if Lee was involved in their murders, but Cappetto did note that both boyfriend and girlfriend lived in the home together the entire time after Shane’s parents had been killed:
“The son and his girlfriend were living in that home for six months before any of this was discovered.”
According to another local media outlet in Seattle, NBC-affiliated KING News, Lee previously made a social media post in November that she was “considering suicide with [Shane].” Per police docs uncovered by that outlet, cops made three separate wellness checks at the home in December after that concerning social media post. However, nothing seemed amiss at the house from the outside, and thus, cops were not legally allowed to enter the home without a search warrant.
Finally, on the morning of New Year’s Eve, the Voslers’ two other sons came over to the house and met deputies for the fourth (and final) wellness check. Once there, one of the sons climbed up onto the roof of the house. He eventually gained entry into the home through a window by pulling out an air conditioning unit — and that’s when he saw Lee’s dead body covered in blood.
Deputy Cappetto told the media that police now believe Shane and Sue were involved in “a collaborative suicide.” Medical examiners believe Lee had been dead longer than her boyfriend — though investigators haven’t been able to conclusively determine how much time passed between their deaths. As for Shane’s parents, cops still don’t know what the motive for their murders might have been.
Regardless, Cappetto told the media that cops will be closing the case after determining Shane was the likely culprit:
“We’re going to be closing this case because we don’t have anyone to charge. The medical examiner’s report is a key piece of evidence and matched up to what we were leaning towards.”

Wow. What a horrible story that just seemed to get worse at every turn.
