The world continues to mourn fallen race car driver and renowned daredevil Jessi Combs after the “horrific” and untimely accident which caused her death on Tuesday in rural southeastern Oregon.
Combs, 36, had been attempting to break a land speed record in the Alvord Desert when her jet car crashed; the cause of the crash is still currently unknown. But already, it’s clear she had an effect on many lives — including the Mythbusters cast, with whom Combs worked on season seven when she replaced Kari Byron on the show while the usual host was out on maternity leave.

Byron paid tribute to the professional racer on Wednesday after news of her death broke, writing on Twitter (below):
“So sad to hear about Jessi. She was a badass. Always pushing limits. Sending smiles into the universe for her.”
Longtime (now former) Mythbusters host Adam Savage also shared his grief on the social media platform, mourning with the group while tweeting (below):
“I’m so so sad, Jessi Combs has been killed in a crash. She was a brilliant & too-notch builder, engineer, driver, fabricator, and science communicator, & strove everyday to encourage others by her prodigious example. She was also a colleague, and we are lesser for her absence. My heart goes out to her family.”
Ugh. So, so sad.

Another former star of the show, Grant Imahara, shared his own sadness on Twitter, too (below):
“So sorry to hear about Jessi. She was a talented builder and host, and above all, a go-getter.”
Host Troy Belleci seemed to take things particularly hard, calling Combs “a legend,” and writing on Instagram how he was “gutted” to hear the news about her death in the horrific crash.

Such a gut punch.
It’s awful to have to watch Combs’ friends and colleagues deal with something like this in real time. We can’t begin to imagine what they are going through, and our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the Combs family, as well as the racer’s friends and loved ones.
