This is… unexpected!
Leon Jenkins, the president of the NAACP’s L.A. chapter, has been forced to quit after he was planning to honor disgraced Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling. THEN he defended the decision to honor the man, even though his racist comments had been released!
His defense was:
“Mr. Sterling’s organization, on a consistent basis has brought in numerous minorities and inner city kids to games. Almost every game, there is a section where there are young people. He has also, in the years we looked at, contributed to a lot of minority charities, including the NAACP. We looked at comparing that with all of the other L.A. (sports) franchises. His organization gave more money to the minority community.”
If that’s true about Sterling, maybe it’s all that overcompensating for being a bigot. After all, Sterling already had three other legal cases come against him regarding his racist ways.
No one else shared Jenkins├óΓé¼Γäó point of view though, and he quit his job as of Thursday. He said he wanted to separate the NAACP from the “negative exposure I have caused.├óΓé¼┬¥
However, it’s being reported that Jenkins knew they were going to oust him, so he just quit preemptively.
The less Sterling in everyone’s life, the better.
