Nas Shares His Philosophy On Fatherhood

Nas, the infamous rapper from Queensbridge, has made a career off of his words in music.
Now, the self made artist is expressing himself outside of his music.
In the interview (below) Nas expands on what his upcoming album means personally for him, and the daughter who he loves desperately.
Here’s what he said:

├óΓé¼┼ôThis is the first time I├óΓé¼Γäóm dealing with a teenage daughter, and it blows me away. I don├óΓé¼Γäót know that you├óΓé¼Γäóre ever prepared to be a parent. Once you become one, that├óΓé¼Γäós your responsibility. [‘Daughters’ is] more like me talking to myself, about how I could have been there a lot more. I beat myself up for not being the best I could be. I would ask her: ├óΓé¼╦£Am I a cool dad?├óΓé¼Γäó or ├óΓé¼╦£Am I a good dad? Did I [mess] up?├óΓé¼Γäó And she would say, ├óΓé¼╦£Nah, you├óΓé¼Γäóre good.├óΓé¼Γäó That├óΓé¼Γäós important to me because I started as a teen. I was around 19 when her mother was pregnant. My daughter means a lot to me. It├óΓé¼Γäós just a record that came from the heart.├óΓé¼┬¥

When asked the question – what├óΓé¼Γäós the most important thing that you want to teach your son about women?├óΓé¼┬¿
Nas said:

“He has to have his own life. My experience could be the wrong thing for his life and what’s ahead of him. A lot of older people are giving the worst advice, based on the problems they had. I’m going to need him to tell me what to do. That’s what I’m looking forward to. If I’m here, we’ll talk. If not, he’s going to figure it out on his own. He’ll take his mother’s words, he’ll take my words, and then there’s the truth. Whatever he feels, he’s got to go with his heart, and be a man in every occasion.”

Amazing stuff.
So true that your kids should try and live their own lives instead of emulating their parents’.
Everyone’s different.
Even families.
