And we bet NBC thought they could sneak this by the masses… LOLz!
As excited as many people are that Jimmy Fallon is taking over for Jay Leno at The Tonight Show, we can’t help but point out that NBC’s press release announcing the move COMPLETELY ignores Conan O’Brien‘s short lived time as Tonight Show host, which briefly lasted from June 2009 to January 2010.
The release states:
“Leno has hosted The Tonight Show with Jay Leno since taking over the reins from television icon Johnny Carson in 1992”
HA!!
So we guess NBC is treating The Tonight Show from 2009-2010 like the 13th floor in some hotels…
It straight up doesn’t exist!
And many peeps are obviously upset by this omission — and seemingly blatant DIG — at Conan!
Ch-ch-check out some of the ANGRY tweets …AFTER THE JUMP!!!

So instead of replacing Leno with Conan, NBC is replacing Leno with Jimmy Fallon? Can we say downgrade for the Tonight Show? 📺

I can’t believe NBC is moving the tonight show back to New York when Conan moved his entire family/staff to LA only to get screwed.
— Lindsey (@recycleanimals) April 3, 2013
Wow. NBC’s announcement doesn’t mention Conan O’Brien AT ALL.

So @nbc decides to screw over Conan for the sake of having Leno a few extra years, and then promotes Fallon yet again? #LateAprilFoolsJoke
— Travis Fishburn (@TravisFishburn) April 3, 2013
So the Leno-Fallon rumors were true… Cut to Conan laughing his butt off in 2014 when NBC inevitably screws this up again. #itsgonnahappen

“Perhaps if we relocate 3000 miles away, Leno won’t try to snatch the show back this time,” – Tonight Show exec. #conan #fallon

If I’m Jimmy Fallon, my first guest on the Tonight Show is Conan O’Brien.
