NCIS Fan Fave Pauley Perrette Explains Why She'll 'Never' Return To Acting

Three things in life are certain: death, taxes, and Pauley Perrette when she says she’s NEVER returning to acting!

Pauley graced our screens for years as forensic specialist Abby Sciuto in NCIS, becoming a fan favorite with her quirky look and vulnerability. But she made the decision to leave the show in 2017 — and two years later made shocking claims she was “terrified” of the show’s star Mark Harmon “attacking” her. She followed up with assault allegations — vowing at the time she’d never return to the show. And now she wants to be clear she won’t be returning to acting at all. Ever.

During a conversation with Hello! on Tuesday, the now-55-year-old reflected on her years as an actress, saying:

“I’m not ungrateful for the benefits that it gave to me. But I’m a different person now and I want to be here for it — the good and the bad and the painful. I want to be me all the time, and it takes a good amount of courage for me to say that to myself but it’s authentically how I feel.”

Wow, so she didn’t feel like herself while acting? Well, no! Because to her, it’s like a “drug” getting to pretend. According to the outlet, she said:

“There’s no drug that I ever did that worked as well as being an actor. What you’re looking for with substance abuse is escape. But with acting, you can escape into 1,000 different things without almost killing yourself doing it. Acting is a total drug!”

What an equally fascinating and troubling way to look at it… But that’s just not where she is anymore. She told the outlet:

“At this point in my life I have this deep need to find authenticity in everything, and being an actor, especially at certain points in my life, was a great escape; it’s like a drug because I didn’t have to be me, I could be somebody else.”

When she puts it like that, we can see how acting could become addicting… The Time of Your Life star continued:

“My character didn’t have all of the problems that I was having. It’s why I only watch documentaries, I want the truth. For me, going back to being an actor would be taking away from this life of true authenticity that I’m living 100% of the time.”

So not only does she, herself, no longer act, but she also won’t even watch OTHER people act?! Whoa…

Well, we respect her dedication to “authenticity.” And after all the scary allegations she made about her NCIS co-star, we can see why she’s shut that part of her life out.
