Neil Armstrong was the first man to explore the moon and after his death, he’ll be exploring another great unknown — the depths of the ocean.
Following a public memorial service on Thursday, Sept. 13, the 82-year-old’s body will be buried at sea by his family.
While NASA has invited his admirers to pay their respects in person at the Washington National Cathedral or watch the event from home, very few details are known about when or where Neil will be shipped off for his final mission.
However, the accomplished astronaut and national hero was a Navy fighter pilot before joining the space program, so that may explain why his family chose to lay his body to rest in the water instead of the ground.
Rest in peace, Neil!
