Netflix’s Bird Box struck a chord with viewers over the holidays. Now, viewers are striking into walls and oncoming traffic because they want to be just like Sandra Bullock in the post-apocalyptic thriller.
**WARNING: SPOILERS**
The characters in the film wear blindfolds to avoid laying eyes on the otherworldly entities that cause people to commit suicide. Those who haven’t seen it yet have still probably seen the memes of a blindfolded Sandy literally dragging her children through the woods.

While most were left petrified, a number of viewers were apparently left thinking “it doesn’t look that hard!” Thus, the #BirdBoxChallenge was born.
Social media users were soon posting clips of themselves doing everyday tasks blindfolded — but soon, people started getting out of hand, walking too close to traffic and causing their kids to run into walls:

Not wanting to be responsible for any injuries, Netflix issued a warning to viewers who were thinking of participating in the challenge. The company tweeted Wednesday:
Can’t believe I have to say this, but: PLEASE DO NOT HURT YOURSELVES WITH THIS BIRD BOX CHALLENGE. We don’t know how this started, and we appreciate the love, but Boy and Girl have just one wish for 2019 and it is that you not end up in the hospital due to memes.

To all those injuring themselves doing this challenge, Malorie looks at you through her blindfold with pity.
