New HIV Prevention Pill Helps Men, Not Women

Sorry ladies…

This is for real a big downer. Researchers have been testing a daily HIV prevention pill, “Truvada,” on thousands of men and women in Africa, but are now halting testing on women because it has been proven to be ineffective.

The current results of testing show that women who take Truvada are just as likely to get HIV as women who take placebos.

Conversely, previous studies of the pill showed that it cut the HIV rate in gay and bi-sexual men by 44%.

While this is sad news, scientists are still making progress on the AIDS front, and things are looking a little better every day!
