It’s being reported that research being performed on a group of Ecuadorian dwarfs might lead to unlocking a lot of the mysteries behind cancer, cancer treatments, and diabetes!
What is it about them?
“Now the common factor among the Ecuadorian villagers is that they all have a genetic mutation that is blocking a key growth hormone, and this mutation seems to offer lifelong protection against cancer and diabetes.”
And what kind of numbers are we talking about?
“During the course of the study, nine of the 99 participants with dwarfism died. Their common killers were age-related diseases such as heart disease and stroke. Yet of all the severely short patients only one got cancer in the 22-year period. After receiving treatment for ovarian cancer in 2008, she has remained cancer-free.
Researchers also looked at detailed death information on 53 severely short people who were not part of the study. They found no evidence of cancer or diabetes-related deaths there.”
Wow. Those are some pretty convincing numbers!
It would be pretty fab if something monumental would come from this, something that will help us battle cancer and diabetes on a larger scale!
