This is one part ridiculous and one part scary at the same time.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has halved the amount of sugar a person should have in their diet.
The new guidelines state that sugar should only make up 5% of our daily calories. It used to be 10%.
So, how much sugar would that actually be?
Well when one 12oz can of regular coca cola has 39grams of sugar, that means just drinking half of that can would almost put you at your daily limit.
For the average person eating about 2,000 calories a day, that’s 25g of sugar.
It seems like a pretty impossible battle against sugar unless you are buying raw, unprocessed food and cooking it yourself.
And who actually has the time for that?
Maybe some people will switch to diet cola. Maybe that will help. Maybe we’ll just feel worse about all the sugar in the average diet.
If you feel like you’ve just been told you’re slowly killing yourself and there’s nothing you can do about it, realize there’s always a choice.
Choose water not soda, choose healthy alternatives when eating out. Cut down on the chocolates and candies.
It might not be easy but it is possible to make some small changes to drastically improve your health. You can do it!!
