This is scary — and probably not smart.
A man has apparently lost his foot, according to eyewitnesses, after a small explosion rocked a part of New York City’s Central Park earlier this morning, and authorities believe it all has to do with fireworks.

According to eyewitnesses on scene, the man and his friends were climbing on a rock near the Fifth Avenue and East 60th Street portions of the park when something ‘exploded,’ seriously injuring the man.
Authorities strongly suspect that fireworks are to blame, though the man’s friend has allegedly denied that they were carrying any with them.
Coincidentally, New York Times reporter Sarah Maslin Nir was just down the street covering Elie Wiesel‘s memorial service after his death yesterday, and when she heard the explosion, she rushed into Central Park, only to tweet this (below):
Outside Eli Wiesel’s funeral I heard a huge explosion just now. Running into Central Park and found a young man with his left leg blown off

Yikes.
She continued:
The young man is safely on his way to hospital.No official word as to what transpired. His friends said he was walking&stepped on something

Scary.
Regardless, hopefully this young man makes a recovery, even if his leg and foot sound… not so good.
