Well, here’s a twist on things.
When New York’s Mayor Bloomberg was asked about his thoughts on Lenox Hill Hospital giving Beyonce and her newborn special treatment, he actually defended the hospital’s action with an interesting spin.
With the reportedly $1.2-1.3 million that was paid to the hospital for sanctioning off an entire wing for Bey and Co., the mayor implied that the money given to Lenox Hill could actually help future patients.
He said at a press conference:

“Let’s step back a little bit here. If [the hospital] got paid a lot of money and it let them provide services to other people who don’t have insurance or can’t afford it, I’m not so sure it’s a bad thing. Full-paying patients are very valuable to hospitals in this day and age.
…it’s been an awful long time since I’ve been in a maternity ward. I don’t think I’m the person that can tell you what goes on in this day and age. I don’t think you should keep people from seeing their babies, or whatever, but have different services for people are full-paying patients. It’s easy to go and criticize, but somebody’s got to pay.”

In a recent statement, the hospital denied the rumors that they gave A-list treatment to the Carter family, but the fact is, they DID get paid a substantial amount. And hey, if it’s helping out moms who need medical care, then who are we to judge?
