We said BRRR! It’s cold in here! There must be some injustice in the atmosphere!!!
Anyone who has watched a NFL game knows the cheerleaders are a staple on the sideline and are pretty much shown before every commercial break!
Well a handful of ladies from around the league are speaking up and saying not only do they not get paid enough, but they are forced to work in awful conditions!!
Earlier this year, Oakland Raiders cheerleader Lacy T. filed a lawsuit against the team, saying they failed to pay the Raiderettes minimum wage and forced them to pay for their own expenses, such as makeup and trips to the salon! Even worse, girls could actually be fined for infractions such as putting on weight!
Not long after, Cincinnati Bengals cheerleader Alexa Brenneman also filed a lawsuit against her team saying girls were only paid $2.85 an hour for their work on the sidelines!
The most recent lawsuit came earlier this week when five Buffalo Bills cheerleaders said the girls were forced to work as many as 20 unpaid hours a week! But the most shocking thing to come out of their lawsuit was a practice called the “jiggle test,” where girls were forced to do jumping jacks while cheer coaches criticized various parts of their bodies that “jiggled” too much!
Sadly, these poor working conditions aren’t exactly news as practices such as this have been going on for YEARS! However, it seems cheerleaders are fed up with the low pay they’re receiving, especially when they’re helping their teams earn MILLIONS of dollars per year!
