It’s been a rough couple of weeks for the NFL as star running backs Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson were wrapped up in domestic violence and child abuse scandals respectively.
But despite all of the turmoil, one man we have yet to hear from is the league’s commissioner, Roger Goodell, himself. Until today.
The NFL commish finally spoke today to address the league’s poor handling of each scandal, saying:
“I got it wrong on a number of levels ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ from the process that I led to the decision that I reached. But now I will get it right. We will get our house in order first.”
So we’ve heard Roger apologize a couple of times now, but the real question on everyone’s mind was whether or not these two cases might ended up costing him his job.
Sadly, it looks like he’s here to stay as he assured reporters he has the full support of the league’s owners and mentioned that they would be teaming up with the National Domestic Violence Hotline and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center.
Roger also addressed the now infamous Ray Rice tape that started it all by saying the league tried to get their hands on the footage but was unsuccessful. However, a TMZ reporter in attendance was quick to call him out, saying:
“We got it with one phone call. You have a whole department.”
The commish dodged the question, which is pretty much what he did for his entire 45 minutes in front of the cameras. In fact, the only excitement came when a man had to be detained by security and was dragged out of the room screaming “Don’t take me to an elevator!” Yes. This really happened.
So what did we learn in a press conference where pretty much nothing was said? Well, the NFL did a pretty awful job of protecting women and children, but they feel really bad about it so it’s OK now, right?
