Depression affects more people than you’d think, even those everyone might consider too famous or wealthy to ever feel that way.
Like, Nicole Kidman. We had no idea about the extent of her depression, but we can totally believe it — because past all the fame and fortune, she’s human like the rest of us!
The low point in her life was when her marriage to Tom Cruise broke down.
They were married for 11 years and adopted two kids together, so of course it was going to be tough. Here’s what she said about it:
“I got married really fast and really young. But I don’t regret that because it got me (my children) Bella and Connor and I did have a fantastic marriage for a long period. Then when it didn’t work out I had to really dig deep and find my way through depression. I have no regrets about all of it. It was all part of growing up.”
She admits, then, that the break up wasn’t the only source of the depression, but also trying for years of having no luck of having kids:
“I had so much time thinking that wasn’t going to happen in my life and trying to understand that. When it did happen – and for it to be a surprise – that was great. I had tried and failed and failed and failed. Not to be too detailed, but I’ve had an ectopic pregnancy, miscarriages and I’ve had fertility treatments. I’ve done all the stuff you can possibly do to try get pregnant.
“Every woman who has been through all those ups and downs knows the depression that comes with it. So the way it just happened with Sunday was like, ‘What?’ The percentages were so low. It is the miracle in my life.”
We’re so glad you’re in a better place now, Nicole!
We don’t know what the Hollywood landscape would do without you if you hadn’t stuck to your wonderfully amazing and award-winning career!
