Talk about a wide demographic!
The beaver is New York’s state animal and until 2007, many believed none were present in New York City. Turns out, there are!
The first beaver, found in the Bronx River was named Jose the Beaver in honor of U.S. Rep. Jose E. Serrano of the Bronx.
Now, this past September a second beaver was discovered. The Wildlife Conservation Society andBronxzoo.com held a contest to name the critter, with such names as Chompers, Caster, Bobbie, and Wally.
In the end, by a large margin, the name Justin Beaver won.
What an honor! We’re just glad the name wasn’t chosen because of resemblance.
