Nyle DiMarco takes a stand!
The model and actor — who also happens to be deaf — is calling out the new Netflix teen movie Sierra Burgess Is A Loser after it turns out the film makes jokes at the expense of the deaf, transgender people, and more marginalized groups.

In a series of messages first posted to his Twitter account on Sunday morning, DiMarco called out the movie for some of what he argues were inappropriate jokes that unfairly attacked and maligned people.
Here’s what he wrote (below):
There were homophobic and transphobic jokes as well.

Amen!!!
It’s interesting to see; in the last few days after DiMarco’s call-out, a lot of different writers have explored how problematic of a film Sierra Burgess turned out to be (examples here, here, here, and here, to name a few).
Definitely not the best publicity for Netflix, but hopefully it’s at least got people thinking about better ways to incorporate storylines of marginalized people into teen flicks!
