October is National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month!

It’s always hard to understand how someone could give up a dog and place it in a shelter, yet it happens everyday.
One hundred and eighty six years ago, the first organized dog shelter was established in England. The United States soon followed by founding the ASPCA in 1866.
The ASPCA does great work, but they’re only as effective as those willing to adopt. Every year, 5 to 7 million animals are placed in shelters with 3 to 4 million of them being euthanized. As people say, there aren’t bad pets, only bad owners. Don’t let the animals suffer because of this.
Get out and find your local shelter! There are around 5,000 nationwide waiting to help pair you with a furry friend. You can utilize Petfinder and AdoptAPet to search by animal, breed, location, color, size, and sex.
Help an animal in need. Bring a new family member home this month!
