Twitter Has Words About O.J. Simpson Being Honored In NFL's Pre-Super Bowl Tribute!

OJ simpson honored in super bowl tribute

The Internet isn’t sure how it feels about the NFL’s decision to include forming running back and accused murderer O.J. Simpson in its pre-game tribute during Super Bowl 2020.

As fans know, Simpson — who was acquitted in the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman — was recently named one of the 100 greatest players in the history of the NFL.

Although he was absent during a ceremony that took place before the Big Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers, FOX, the station that broadcasted the sports event, opted to display O.J.’s name and photo in a graphic which included current Arizona Cardinals player Larry Fitzgerald, former New England Patriots star Randy Moss, former Los Angeles Rams star Eric Dickerson, and other legendary players.

Naturally, social media was quick to notice. Many viewers took to Twitter to criticize the league for honoring the 72-year-old, who has stayed mostly out of the spotlight since he was released from prison on parole in October 2017 for kidnapping and armed robbery.

Appalled Twitics had some harsh words, for instance:

“Bold move including OJ Simpson in the list of NFL honorees.”

“Did the NFL seriously note how great OJ Simpson was?!”

“Hey @NFL is it really necessary to include OJ SIMPSON of all people in the top 100 players in history?? No need to glorify a murderer/repeated domestic violence offender…”

Others were even more offended that the NFL decided to honor a player like Simpson — who, years after the trial that birthed the 24 hour news cycle in 1995, served nine years for a kidnapping and armed robbery in Las Vegas — while totally snubbing former quarterback and #BlackLivesMatter activist Colin Kaepernick, who still hasn’t been signed to a team since starting his national anthem protest in 2016.

These users wrote:

“THEY INCLUDED OJ SIMPSON IN THE PRE-GAME SHOW TRIBUTE BUT Colin Rand Kaepernick DOESN’T HAVE A JOB.”

“NFL: No place for Kaepernick but plenty of room for OJ Simpson… A league of f**king hypocritical ghouls”

Many other Twitter users commented on the subject by making horrible “killer” jokes we’ll spare you from having to read.

Simpson, for his part, has been quite active on the social site since joining in June 2019. Before Sunday’s game, the ex-athlete tweeted a video message to his 928,000 followers, in which he said:

“Finally it’s Super Bowl Sunday and I just can’t wait. I’m going to a real super Super Bowl party.”

We guess you still really can live your best life after getting acquitted of murder!

What did U think of the NFL’s O.J. shout out, Perezcious readers?
