Oprah Speaks Out About Being Duped

As we mentioned last month, Holocaust survivor Herman Rosenblat was dropped by his publishers, Berkley Books, after reports revealed that his book about how he met his future wife at a concentration camp, Angel at the Fence, was all a lie.

Even Oprah Winfrey was a fan of his book, as she had interviewed the couple two times over the past years. She called their romance “the single greatest love story ├óΓé¼┬ª we’ve ever told on the air.”

But, now, Momma O finally breaks her silence.

On last Friday’s show, Oprah spoke out about the situation and said she was “very disappointed” with it all.

Winfrey said “That’s what happens with lies. They get bigger and bigger and bigger.”

She also mentioned Rosenblat had planned to return to the show to “explain himself” but his attorneys decided against it. Though Oprah did clarify that the couple has “been married for 50 years and he was, indeed, in a concentration camp and so was she.”

O’s website still listed the book but added a small disclaimer stating “on December 27, 2008, Herman Rosenblat admitted to fictionalizing portions of his life story, including how he met his wife.”

But Oprah’s best non-gay female friend, Gayle King has to speak out about this as well. She says, “I was very disappointed because when the story first broke, the big headline was `Oprah Duped Again.” I called Oprah and I said, `I’m so tired of you being the whipping boy for this hoax because he didn’t just dupe you ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ he duped a lot of people.'”
