Hmm, something still seems fishy to us.
Oprah Winfrey recently divulged a story of how an encounter with a salesperson at a boutique in Zurich left her feeling discriminated against.
Queen O wanted to take a looksie at a crocodile leather Tom Ford bag, but was told she could not afford it, so she took her Amex card and went elsewhere.
Now Trudie Goetz, head of the Trois Pommes boutique where the encounter took place, claims it was all a “misunderstanding” between Oprah and the sales associate.
She explained:
“This is an absolute misunderstanding. Any sales person would love to sell a crocodile bag. She simply explained [to Oprah] that the bag she wanted to look at was beautiful but in a very high price range and suggested lower priced models in leather, ostrich and so forth. It was a misunderstanding. The staff member who welcomed Oprah is one of the hardest working and regularly deals with VIP clients. There was no discrimination. Of course, she [the salesperson] speaks English, but not as well as her mother tongue. It was a real misunderstanding.”
But is it really a staff member’s job to decide what a client can or cannot afford? Did this particular salesperson have x-ray vision and could look inside people’s wallets???
Yeah, we doubt it!
And we think even someone who doesn’t look “rich” should be allowed to look at whatever expensive thingamabob they see in a store. Have people learned nothing from Pretty Woman?!
The Swiss Tourism Agency also issued a statement apologizing about the matter:
“We are very sorry for what happened to her, of course, because we think all of our guests and clients should be treated respectfully, in a professional way.”
To make things even weirder, Goetz was also a guest at Tina Turner‘s wedding that weekend!
They probs won’t hang out again.
