Orange Is The New Black star Laverne Cox is making waves and history as the first openly transgender person to be Emmy nominated!!
WERK! WERK! WERK!
After one of Litchfield’s finest heard the news, she couldn’t help but share her excitement on Twitter:

She later explained just how long she’s been waiting for this moment in her journey:

“I absolutely dreamed about this. I dreamed big and wild my whole life. And getting an Emmy nomination is one of the dreams. But I honestly can’t believe it. It’s really happening. I’m a black trans woman from Mobile, Alabama with a working class background raised by a single mother and I’m nominated for an Emmy! Wow!”

We love a woman who kicks down walls!
Congrats to the entire cast of OITNB, but especially Miz Cox!
This year’s awards, hosted by Seth Meyers, will take place LIVE August 25th at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. on NBC!
