This is truly heartbreaking.
Mom blogger Jillian Meredith McCabe fell onto hard times when her husband, Matt McCabe, was diagnosed with MS and had to quit his job. She’d already been caring for their six-year-old autistic son London, and couldn’t handle it anymore.
On Monday, the mother threw her son over the Yaquina Bay Bridge in Newport, Oregon, to his death, then called the police on herself.
The police and firefighters found London’s body in the water at around 10:20pm, and Jillian was booked for suspicion of aggravated murder, murder, and manslaughter.
Jillian had originally set up a crowdfunding page where she asked friends and family for help because she felt like she was going to have a “Thelma and Louise” moment.
The mother’s great-aunt talked about Jillian’s unstable mental condition, saying:
“Jillian really struggled with her mental health and I know she was just out of her mind when this happened. It was terrible what we went through to get her the help she did get. We worked full-time to get her the services but obviously they weren’t sufficient.”
Her husband previously blogged that he and Jillian were living apart, but it seems like they’d moved back in prior to this tragedy. Back in September, Matt sweetly wrote:
“Jillian is living with us, too,. London is pleased as punch. He lays on our laps and puts our hands together. Last night he made the ‘mmmwha!’ sound and gave his Mommy a kiss. Then he made the same sound and pushed our faces together. He’s all smiles.”
Currently, Jillian is being held on $750,000 bail.
Our hearts go out to the family members involved, especially London’s dad Matt who was already dealing with a lot as it is.
