Outlander Star Sam Heughan Catches Heat For Hawaiian Vacation During Coronavirus Pandemic

Outlander hunk Sam Heughan apparently doesn’t think social distancing applies to him, considering he’s currently on a Hawaiian holiday!

While participating in a live Twitter Q&A with fans on Sunday, he let it slip to social media users that he was on a vacay after his previously scheduled appearance at PaleyFest in Los Angeles to promote his latest project, Bloodshot, had been canceled as a precaution to not spread the coronavirus.

When one fan asked about where he was spending his self-quarantine:

“where are you spending the confinement? And where would you like to spend it?”

The Scottish star responded:

“Hey Nuria! Thanks for asking, I’m in Hawaii. Came here before travel ban. Rather concerned to return to UK. Certainly safer here for now. Hope you’re safe and your family too!x”

Almost immediately, flags were raised by fans. One questioned:

“Wait — so you had the vacation you’re currently on booked knowing you were committed to Paley? Or did you book it even though you knew there was a rising global pandemic? Doesn’t add up. People are dying, being quarantined, and many have lost their jobs. This is serious, dude.”

Heughan quickly defended himself in response:

“Thank you for your concern Pooks. Yes people ARE dying. It’s terrifying. For your information, I booked once I knew Paley was cancelled. Is that okay with you?”

Ok, this is a pretty bad defense if you ask us. You booked a vacation after your previous commitment fell through BECAUSE OF A GLOBAL PANDEMIC. Why would you go to another place that isn’t home? Definitely doesn’t add up.

Specifically, the 39-year-old is catching added heat because David Ige, Hawaii’s governor, had previously announced all visitors should “postpone their vacations for at least the next thirty days” in hopes of flattening the curve.

When further pressed about the issue, he sent out a now-deleted tweet:

“Excuse me? Not that I have to explain but let me. I was brought to America for MANY work commitments. I had booked a holiday this week, after over a year of commitments. I’m self isolating / taking care whilst looking to return home, if safe. I hope you’re safe but please unfollow.”

This isn’t an ideal situation for ANYONE. But you can enjoy a stay-cation at home instead of being bummed about missing out on other travel plans!
