We’re talking LOW budget and the possible resurgence of indie film!
Considering the success of Paranormal Activity and its miniscule $15,000 budget, Paramount will launch a new production division for movies budgeted at less that $100,000.
Although most the films made under this currently unnamed banner will not get a theatrical release, they made end up as “calling cards” to showcase new talent. And some may get big-budget remakes!
The division will not exceed funding of $2 million per year and save thousands of dollars in film prints while showing films in their digital format. Paramount also plans to forgo costly marketing campaigns and rely just on word-of-mouth to promote the film. Some movies may be released only at the midnight time slot to avoid costly wide releases.
