Five-year-old Charlotte Figi suffers from the genetic disorder Dravet’s syndrome, which can cause up to 300 grand mal seizures a week! In fact in 2012, this syndrome, which children usually don├óΓé¼Γäót outlive, caused Charlotte to flat-line three separate times.
So, her parents got desperate and tried something new: marijuana.
They moved to Colorado, where it is legal, and introduced a new strain named after their daughter, Charlotte’s Web.
This strain does not have THC in it, which is what gets people high and actually can induce seizures. Instead, it has a different component called CBD in it, which helps supress the seizures.
Now, the Figi family has a former Pfizer chemist extract the CBD, which is sent out for third-party testing of its purity. Then, it’s combined with olive oil and ingested twice a day. As a result, over 100 families have relocated to try and help their children with this strain of marijuana, and the Figis have opened up a nonprofit. They sell the marijuana that Charlotte’s dad and his five brothers grow and sell at cost.
Doctors are skeptical about this treatment and insist that more testing needs to be done, which the Figis agree with. Paige Figi talked about her daughter’s transformation on the stuff, saying:

├óΓé¼┼ôShe can walk, talk; she ate chili in the car. So I’ll fight for whoever wants this.├óΓé¼┬¥

These were all things Charlotte couldn’t do before she began ingesting marijuana.
People visit the Figis from all over to try and help their kids, many making the move to Colorado.
We absolutely agree that they need more testing, especially when something involves children!
