Paula Abdul was attempting to congratulate Demi Lovato, Jennifer Lopez, and Shakira ahead of their Super Bowl performances on Sunday night when she made a super awkward mix-up!

As you’re likely aware, the Confident songstress absolutely KILLED IT singing The Star-Spangled Banner to kick off the big game, while the ageless 50-year-old and 43-year-old brought down the house during the sexy halftime show.
However, Paula totally mixed up Shakira and Nicole Scherzinger ahead of the show and what ensued is downright hilarious. In a since-deleted tweet, the former American Idol judge wrote:
“Can’t wait to watch these amazing women perform at the #SuperBowl ‼️ #DemiLovato @JLo @shakira xoP ❤️”
Along with her well wishes, she added three images: one of her and Demi, a second with her and the Hustlers star, and a third with Simon Cowell, Nicole, Pepsi exec Frank Cooper, and record executive Antonio “L.A.” Reid (see the now-deleted tweet HERE). As you may recall, Abdul and Scherzinger previously worked together on the US version of The X Factor.
In response, the former Pussycat Dolls frontwoman responded:
“I mean, my hips don’t lie… but I’m not @shakira babes ?❤️”
Whether Miz Abdul really did mix them up or she included it because she’s holding a football at a Pepsi event (they sponsor the halftime show), we may never know! But the responses regarding the social media snafu were golden:
“God Bless Paula Abdul. A national treasure.”
“I stan a forgetful queen”
“All queens but paula was outta pocket and deserved to be called out. Nicole is excellent in every field of entertainment”
“If she says you’re Shakira now, that’s just how it is. Accept your new identity ?”

Back in October, Shakira spoke with Zane Lowe on Apple Music‘s Beats 1 about how excited she was for her performance with Alex Rodriguez‘s fiancée:
“I’ve always wanted to perform at the Super Bowl. It’s like the holy grail of the entertainment industry. It’s a sports event, but it has huge relevance for us artists, and I think it’s going to be fantastic.”
The Colombian songstress added:
“This is going to be an event to celebrate Latin culture and the importance of women also in the industry.”
We think Nicole Shakira totally delivered!
