This little marmoset, Pearl, is waiting to start a new life at the Detroit Zoo after being confiscated by the authorities from a residential home in which she lived as an illegal house pet.
Authorities said the owner gave her up voluntarily and will not be charged.
Pearl on the other hand is waiting patiently at the Detroit Zoo until Scott Carter, the zoo’s chief life sciences officer, finds a primate sanctuary for her.
Unfortunately, living alone as a caged pet means Pearl will have to re-learn how to be a South American monkey, which can be difficult.
“They don’t know how to be their species,” said Carter, referring to exotic pets that often end up at zoos and sanctuaries not knowing how to find food and exist in social structures.
We wish little Pearl the best as she starts her journey toward a new life with other primates to monkey around with!
