Pepsi Introduces Controversial New ‘Skinny’ Can

Who knew that a can of Pepsi could cause people to become upset?
Diet Pepsi is being served in a new “skinny” can for Fashion Week. The company says the can is a “taller, sassier” version of the old can and is a “celebration of beautiful, confident women.”
Critics say it only reinforces stereotypes about women and body image — a stereotype that is especially problematic for high-fashion models.
Pepsi is standing behind the can. Said Jill Beraud, chief marketing officer for PepsiCo:

“Our slim, attractive new can is the perfect complement to today’s most stylish looks, and we’re excited to throw its coming-out party during the biggest celebration of innovative design in the world.”

But critics HATE the can, saying it fuels our weight-obsessed society.
We’re sort of in the middle on this. On one hand, we think that promoting fitness and well-being is important. On the other hand, there’s a fine line between wanting to be healthy and wanting to look like ghostly fashion models, who are TOO skinny.
