Yup, It's Happening. Percy Jackson Coming Back For A Sequel

Sure, the first Percy Jackson movie didn’t get the best reviews, but it was a reasonable hit, which spells out S-E-Q-U-E-L in Hollywood.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief made about $89 million at the U.S. box office and $137 million worldwide. So, now, producers are hoping that the franchise’s fan base will come back for part two, which will bring star Logan Lerman in the title role.

He may be coming back, however, director Chris Columbus will only take on a producer credit for the sequel, which opens the door for Thor Freudenthal, best known for Diary of a Wimpy Kid, to direct.

The sequel will follow the second book in the series, The Sea of Monsters, and will be written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. It’s even expected to get a 2012 release date.

Just in time to fill the void that will be created when Harry Potter leaves us this month.

Okay, suuuure, Percy Jackson is no Harry Potter, but the fans need something, right??!
