This is brand new information! Literally!
Pharrell has garnered a lot of attention for his infectious hit, Happy, but the singer has revealed the song was previously recorded by one of his peers, but it was scrapped by the big wigs in charge!
In an interview with Howard Stern, the DJ asked if the Happy singer considered giving the song to one of his peers and Pharrell replied:
“[CeeLo Green] wanted to do it├óΓé¼┬ªand he did do it.”
Someone needs to do a remix with both Pharrell and CeeLo on the track, STAT!
Pharrell continued dish:
“He sounded amazing on it, he burns my version! But. . . how do I say this diplomatically? The powers that be, at the time, did not see it fit for him. Some folks on his team just felt that the priority should be on [Cee Lo’s] album at the time [2012’s Cee Lo’s Magic Moment], so they elected not to do that song.”
What a bummer!
Makes us wonder if “the powers that be” did decide to keep Happy on the album, would it have been a smash hit as it is today?
Guess we’ll never know!
