Wow! This is truly a step in the right direction!
Pope Francis, who just might be the coolest Pope EVER, is once again discussing his own views on gays, and we’re pretty stoked to hear what he had to say!
When asked if he approved of homosexuality or not, Pope Francis replied:
“Tell me: when God looks at a gay person, does he endorse the existence of this person with love, or reject and condemn this person? We must always consider the person.”
Pope Francis also said earlier this year that he does not judge gay people, because who is he to judge anyone!
Well, you’re the Pope. That’s nothing to sneeze at buddy! You’re kind of a big deal!
But in his latest interview, the Pope frankly faulted the Catholic Church for its condemnation of LGBT individuals, as well as abortion and contraceptive use. According to him, close-mindedness is only going to hurt the faith in the long run. He explained:
“The dogmatic and moral teachings of the church are not all equivalent. The church├óΓé¼Γäós pastoral ministry cannot be obsessed with the transmission of a disjointed multitude of doctrines to be imposed insistently. We have to find a new balance, otherwise even the moral edifice of the church is likely to fall like a house of cards, losing the freshness and fragrance of the Gospel.├óΓé¼┬¥
In other words, worry about yourselves people and leave everyone else alone!
Francis’ free thinking has many of his ultra-conservative subordinates within the Church calling foul though! To them, these are important issues that must be spoken out against! But the Pope remains steadfast in his “live and let live” mentality. He continued, saying:
“I have never been a right-winger. It is not necessary to talk about these issues all the time. This church with which we should be thinking is the home of all, not a small chapel that can hold only a small group of selected people.”
Well put, Pope! Well put!
