Prada Weathers The Tough Economic Times Gracefully

This warms the cockles of our hearts!
Prada, a company that clearly cares about its workers, has hatched a brilliant cost-saving scheme in which the label saves money but doesn’t throw its employees out in the cold.
The Italy-based brand has struck a deal with the Italian work union CGIL, to lay off 250 workers for temporary and short periods of time with the help of public funding. The plan, dubbed “Cassa Integrazione” (translation: “redundancy fund”), covers Prada’s largest production plant, allowing the luxury label to cut workers loose for 4-6 weeks when production is slow. Instead of firing the workers, Prada will clear their schedules for the slow period, and the Italian government will pay them up to 80% of their salary.
Theoretically, should one of these workers pick up a brief intermittent job, this could prove quite fiscally beneficial!
We love that instead of permanently cutting a few workers, the company has opted to make sure everyone is taken care of. This is how you do cost-cutting (ahem Conde Nast)!
Too bad American tax payers would never go for it!
