Women with child are still facing discrimination at alarming rates.
It is reported that the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission resolves 52,000 pregnancy cases.
The amount of money shelled because of that? $150.5 MILLION!
Pregnant women face firings, leave without pay, and being barred from some work. This is highlighted by a Texas federal judge ruling against a Houston mother who was fired for asking for a place to pump breast milk.
However, many employers state that the laws are murky and hard to follow. Witnesses said to a EEOC panel that the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, the 1990 Americans With Disabilities Act and the Family and Medical Leave Act all overlap and leave gray areas.
The EEOC plans on releasing a four year strategic plan to help clarify laws and fight discrimination.
We need our women in the workforce to have equal rights!
