Prince Soars To Number One On Billboard Just 8 Hours After News Of His Death

We’re glad his music is helping people cope.
Prince‘s sudden passing on Thursday marked the loss of a true music legend, but even we’re surprised by the latest news.
We’re hearing that the 57-year-old’s 2001 compilation album The Very Best of Prince is set to top the Billboard 200 for the week ending May 7 with 150,000 albums sold!

While fans purchasing albums to show support for their fallen idols isn’t new — David Bowie‘s Blackstar topped the chart earlier this year — what’s special about this album is the timing.
Billboard closes its weekly sales period every Thursday night at midnight, meaning Prince’s 15-year-old set managed to outsell every other album in the country this week in just eight hours!
However, we’re sure previous front-runners like The Lumineers, Rihanna, and Kanye West will gladly concede to the legend.
The official numbers won’t come out until Sunday, but we’re thinking keeping his songs off every streaming site except TIDAL certainly played a part in his impressive numbers!
Are U one of the thousands who purchased The Very Best of Prince yesterday??
