Prince is not going to record another album, that is, until the online piracy problem is under control. He’s fed up with the online music industry and has decided just not to deal with it!
He was actually the first person to release a major album completely online in 1997, but has since decided that he hates digital music:
“The industry changed. We made money (online) before piracy was real crazy. Nobody’s making money now except phone companies, Apple and Google. I’m supposed to go to the White House to talk about copyright protection. It’s like the gold rush out there. Or a carjacking. There’s no boundaries. I’ve been in meetings and they’ll tell you, ‘Prince, you don’t understand, it’s dog-eat-dog out there’. So I’ll just hold off on recording.
I personally can’t stand digital music. You’re getting sound in bits. It affects a different place in your brain. When you play it back, you can’t feel anything. We’re analogue people, not digital.”
We understand the issue with people not paying for your music, but we also don’t think digital music is all that bad. Sure, you get a warmer, more textural experience with analogue, but with digital it’s much easier for many more people to experience your music!
And on the go, to boot!
We just hope this isn’t the end of Prince’s new music future. We’re sure he’ll still be touring for a while, but to never have anymore new Prince is just so sad!
Do U agree with Prince??
