The royal drama never really ends, does it?
According to the latest buzz swirling out of palace-adjacent circles, Prince William is already thinking ten steps ahead when it comes to his kids — and he is not about to let history repeat itself. Yes, we are talking about the whole “heir versus spare” saga that has haunted the monarchy for generations… and exploded into global headlines thanks to his younger brother, Prince Harry.

Insiders told longtime royal watcher Tina Brown that the future king is deeply aware of the emotional landmines that come with royal birth order. Writing in her Substack newsletter this week, the former Vanity Fair head honcho dropped a pretty telling alleged insight about what is supposedly going on in William’s mind right now:
“I am told that the heir to the throne, Prince William, is preoccupied with the built-in risk of primogeniture’s cruelty.”
Oof. That word ‘cruelty’ says a lot, doesn’t it?
If you’ve been paying attention, you already know how that “spare” dynamic played out for Harry, who famously laid it all bare in his memoir named, well, Spare, and in many interviews after stepping away from royal life with Meghan Markle. The tension between the brothers has been icy at best ever since, and it’s clearly left an impression on William.
And here’s where things get really interesting: William isn’t just aware of the problem — he’s actively trying to fix it for the next generation, specifically for his other children Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
Brown said:
“He is determined that his second- and third-born children, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, are well-prepared and well-financed for independent lives and will not fall into the same cycle of thwarted freedom.”
That is a major shift from the old-school royal playbook!
Of course, eldest son Prince George is still being groomed for his future role as king. We’ve already seen him pop up at official events in a very controlled, age-appropriate way. But behind the scenes, William and Princess Catherine are reportedly laser-focused on making sure Charlotte and Louis don’t grow up feeling like “extras” in their own family story.

And honestly? It sounds like they’re taking notes from the past — especially the very public fallout of Harry’s experience as the ultimate royal Spare.
With Harry and Meghan continuing to carve out their own path in California, the contrast between the two brothers’ lives couldn’t be more stark. One is building a monarchy for the future, while the other walked away from it entirely. But if Wills has anything to say about it, his kids won’t be caught in that same emotional ‘spare’ tug-of-war!
