A new poll from The New Times and CBS News finds that 42% of Americans nationwide now say same sex couples should be allowed to legally marry. That’s up nine points from last month, when 33% supported legalizing same sex marriage.
Wow. Wow. Wow.
Why such a huge jump in one month????
Support for same sex marriage is now at its highest point since CBS News starting asking about it in 2004.
28% percent say same sex couples should have no legal recognition – down from 35% in March – while 25% support civil unions, but not marriage, for gay couples.
Progress. Progress. Progress.
Civil marriage is not about religion. It is about full equality under the law.
It will happen – and on a federal level. The question is not if it will happen but how soon?
